Liliensternus liliensterni

Liliensternus was a lithe, medium-sized Neotheropod from the Late Triassic of Germany. It was among the largest theropods of its time; growing up to around 5 meters (16 feet) at full adult size. It was once described as a species of the dubious theropod Halticosaurus, before being assigned it's own genus 50 years later. Although it was one of the largest Triassic theropods known, it still faced competition from the larger, bulkier predators of the region; particularly from large Rauisuchids such as Teratosaurus. Comparisons of Liliensternus have been made with the larger, later Dilophosaurus, and many reconstructions of this animal show a similar pair of cranial crests. The only known skull material of Liliensternus however is incomplete, so whether or not the animal had them in life is actually uncertain.
